Poetry Reading, Author Talk & Book Signing
Saturday, April 6th
Books & Company
Join us for a poetry reading and book talk with Kathie Giorgio, for her new collection When You Finally Said No. Please note, adult topics will be discussed during this event.
In this story told through poetry, a gang-rape throws a teenage girl into adulthood on a path of promiscuity and abusive relationships. Giorgio incorporates several poetic forms, including haiku, villanelle and prose poem, to capture the shadow of a difficult past coloring the present and dimming the possibilities for a positive future. When the woman finally finds the courage to say no to abuse and submission, she faces herself and discovers her own worth. She learns to put herself first, even if it means being alone.
Kathie is asking attendees to donate 1-2 items from the Women’s Center of Waukesha’s Wish List. Items include: Umbrellas, Unscented and dye-free Laundry soap, and bleach wipes (used very frequently to clean/sanitize). They can also use gift cards to grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations, as well as non-perishable food items.
